BRIAN McDermott, who was a three-time Super League winner as a Bradford Bulls player, has resigned as Featherstone head coach after missing out on promotion to the top flight.
Rovers were beaten by Batley in yesterday's Championship play-off semi-final, meaning the Bulldogs will now play Leigh for a place in Super League in this coming weekend's Million Pound Game.
The club had appointed McDermott, who guided Leeds to four Super League titles, last year.
McDermott said: "I came to the club with a clear objective to achieve promotion to Super League, an objective which unfortunately has not been achieved.
"I feel my departure will give the club the opportunity to take a new direction and hopefully they will be able to build upon the progress made this year."
