CITY’S game at Mansfield tomorrow is OFF following the Queen’s passing.
The EFL have confirmed that the football programme this weekend has been cancelled following talks with the Government.
A statement said: “Further to discussions on Friday morning it has been determined that all EFL fixtures from 9-10 September will be postponed as a mark of respect by the National Sport to the passing of HRH Queen Elizabeth II.”
Julian Knight, chair of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport, had earlier indicated on talkSport that Government advice was that games should not take place this weekend - but it was down to the individual bodies.
The Cabinet Office guidance said there was “no obligation to cancel or postpone events and sporting fixtures during the National Mourning period.”
Tonight’s games at Norwich and Tranmere, City’s opponents next Tuesday, were both called off last night following the announcement of the Queen’s death.
National League System games are also off, meaning no Saturday fixture for the likes of Bradford (Park Avenue), Eccleshill United and Thackley
