MARK Hughes thinks Kian Harratt’s red card could help City in the long run.

Harratt is available again for tomorrow’s trip to Colchester having served a three-game ban.

The on-loan Huddersfield striker was sent off on his debut after raising his hands at Doncaster keeper Jonny Mitchell in an incident following the final whistle on opening day.

The 20-year-old is now eager to make up for the lost time – and boss Hughes believes that is good news for the Bantams.

“It’s been difficult for him but he’s had a good week,” said Hughes. “He’s had to do extra work because he’s missing game time but he’s done that really well.

“I have to say he looks really sharp. He’s ready to go and, in a strange way, maybe the sending off will be a good thing because he’ll be even more determined to make an impact.”

City wanted to appeal Harratt’s dismissal at the time but could not find clear footage of what went on. Hughes admitted it has been a “harsh lesson” for the forward.

“He’s a guy who wants to do the best he can do in terms of not only playing and doing well for us but his development as a player and individual.

“I sense Kian will learn. He just wants to play football.

“He’s like someone who plays in the street. He just wants to have a kickabout and be the best version of himself.

“We’re going to reap the benefits of that attitude.”
