MARK Hughes may look to shuffle the pack at Colchester tomorrow despite back-to-back wins.

City followed up their Carabao Cup success with an opening league victory of the season at the weekend against Newport.

But Hughes is considering freshening things up for the first long trip of the campaign.

He said: “It’s been a good week but a taxing one, so it’s important we keep that freshness in the team.

“We’ve got good options and we’ll mix and match at times. We’ll look at opposition and their game plan as well as our game plan and at times will change things around.

“It won’t be a reflection on how people played. Sometimes it will be because I think a different combination is the way to go and having those options is a key thing.”

City came through Saturday unscathed and are boosted by the return of striker Kian Harratt from his three-game ban.

“He’s another type of attacking threat,” added Hughes. “He’s a good option to bring back into the fold.”

The City boss felt his side could have pushed on more in their 2-0 win over the Exiles after playing the second half against 10 men.

But having led through Richie Smallwood’s early thunderbolt, they did make the numerical advantage count with a second goal from Harry Chapman.

“We were a little bit safe in our play in the Doncaster game and needed someone to commit, drop the shoulder and try and get past.

“Chappy will always do that, he enjoys that part of the game.

“If you’ve got players who can do that, it’s disruptive to the opposition and things start to happen.

“We’re pleased for Chappy. He’s come into the side for the last couple of games and had an impact and he’s progressing well.

“I thought we were better than we had been against Doncaster, albeit not where we need to be if we’re going to create multiple chances against teams that just sit back.

“We’re getting used to sides making it difficult and getting lots of people in the area where the ball is.

“We’ve got to be bright enough to draw them to the ball and then quickly change to have another point of attack.

“I thought we did that okay on occasions, other times not so well. But three games in I’m happy with where we are.”

The win lifted City into 11th in the League Two table.
