A TRY scoring rugby league appearance has been long in the making for Sam Hallas but he finally broke his hoodoo in the 79th minute on Sunday.

Hallas wrapped things up for Bradford Bulls in their 48-18 victory over Workington Town, as he cut a superb line to cross for his first try since 2019.

Speaking to the T&A, Hallas said: "It was a brilliant feeling to get back on the scoresheet because it has been a while, that's for sure. I would have scored one last season if it wasn't for a mix up between me and George (Flanagan) but it wasn't to be, so it makes this feeling extra special.

"It is nice to score a try but at the same time, I leave that job to other people. I prefer to do all the boring stuff and all simple things to a good standard; that's my game and that's what I pride myself on."

Asked if he'd like to improve on the try scoring aspect of his game, Hallas responded: "I really enjoy doing the gritty things and the things that are perhaps not pleasing on the eye for the team.

"I'm not a selfish bloke and I'm never really one to look at my stats and get giddy about them, so if I score one or twenty tries in a season then it won't really affect me. So, it won't be something that I particularly focus on improving but I will help where I can.

"For example, if one of our wingers score in the corner- that can come from my line of run. That can give me as much pleasure as scoring a try. If I do my job in the middle then that's where we'll score tries as a team and that's what makes me happy."

Hallas and his teammates will be looking to bring their A-game to the LNER Community Stadium on Monday evening when they take on York Knights in the evening kick-off (7:45 pm).

For Mark Dunning's side it will be a chance to make it two wins on the bounce, whilst it could be the gateway needed for a strong ending to the season after a fairly turbulent campaign.

Whichever way you look at it, Bulls have only pride to play for but they travel to a York side who have play-off ambitions of their own. Going on a successful winning run is what Hallas and the Bradford boys need.

He said: "It is always nice to finish the season on a high. You don't always know what the off-season is going to bring to the group; some lads might be moving on and sometimes it might be the last time you are going to play with a group of people.

"So, finishing on a good note is always great as you can go into pre-season with some confidence and belief about the upcoming campaign. We know we've let ourselves down this season, so to get some frustration out of our systems in the last few games is important to us."

Brother of York Knights' Danny Kirmond, Jack, tragically passed away on Monday after being assaulted on Sunday and with the visit of Bradford just around the corner, Hallas paid his respects to Kirmond and his family.

He said: "It's going to be an emotional one for York because of the tragedy that happened with Danny (Kirmond) and his family. I'd like to send out my best wishes and condolences to Danny and his family. He has been a brilliant servant to the game, he's a great player and a great man.

"I'm sure they'll be emotionally charged and ready for it."
