ABO Eisa believes he has learned the lessons from his Valley Parade injury hell.

The winger is thrilled to be back in the thick of the City squad during their training camp in Spain.

Eisa’s second-half appearance in last week’s first pre-season friendly at Bradford (Park Avenue) was his longest since joining the club from Scunthorpe 13 months ago.

Now he is aiming to push his chances in Mark Hughes’ thoughts with a strong week of warm-weather work in Murcia.

Eisa insists the hamstring horrors of last season and well behind him but feels there are positives to take from such a tough first year at the club.

He said: “It was the first time I’ve really been injured in my career but I feel I learned a lot of things from last season that I needed to.

“I feel that’s it’s been beneficial for me even though it was obviously very hard.

“I’m good now and I’m excited to be back out there.

“As the manager says, I feel like a new signing and I’m excited about what the future holds for me at this club.”

Eisa had already been out for three months following a hamstring operation when Hughes joined the club at the end of February.

The Welshman has been patient with the 26-year-old’s long-term recovery but did allow him a 20-minute run as a sub in the final game of last season against Carlisle.

“That did mean a lot to me,” added Eisa. “I didn’t want the last thing on my mind to be that moment from Scunthorpe (when I got injured).

“It was nice to play in that game and have that lasting image from that for the season.

“The manager has been very patient with me. He didn’t want me to rush it.

“Obviously I’ve been through a hard time but he knows what it’s like for a footballer and I thank him for that and giving me some minutes at the end of the season as well.

“He’s been positive, not just with me but everyone else.

“He always keeps the mood good. He’s a calm person and that rubs off on the players.

“We’re here to play football and I’m excited to be back out there again.

“Last season was obviously not a good one for myself so I’m really pleased to be involved again.

“I’m going to put in a lot of hard work and try and get some goals for this team.”

Eisa had a late effort cleared off the line at the Horsfall Stadium but was delighted to get some decent game-time after so much frustration on the sidelines.

“It was great. The first 45 minutes are always a tough one but it’s good we got that as a team and it’s something we will obviously build on.

“I should have scored at the end but I was probably blowing. But I will get some goals.

“It’s good to have this trip together to Spain now for team bonding – although the runs will be a lot tougher in the heat and there’s no getting away from them.

“It’s a good time for the players. Obviously, everyone is forming different relationships on the pitch as well and we’re all enjoying it.

“As an ambitious player, it’s good that the manager has set out his plans early on and we all know what he wants from us.”
