BULLS will aim to lift the spirits of Matty Dawson-Jones after another injury blow ruled him out of Sunday’s Odsal showdown with leaders Leigh.

The experienced winger and centre suffered a hamstring problem in the opening defensive set against Dewsbury.

It is yet another setback for the 31-year-old, who almost called it quits last year after a horrendous time with injuries in recent seasons.

Dawson-Jones is still having tests to discover the severity of the issue but Mark Dunning feared he is out of contention to face the Centurions.

The interim coach said: “We’re not 100 per cent sure just how bad it is but it’s a little bit worse than we thought.

“The best-case scenario was that we were hoping it was cramp and he’d be available this week

“We’ve got some more tests to do to see where he is but he’s looking doubtful.

“Matty is a great teammate with the way he conducts himself with his experience with everyone around Tong is outstanding. He’s good for the group and he’s a genuinely good bloke as well.

“He does let injuries beat him up at times and he’s had a few of them. They can get him down.

“My job and that of the rest of the staff is to put an arm round him and make sure he’s okay and do everything we can to get him back on the field as soon as possible.”

Sam Hallas has shown no ill-effects from his dead calf and Dunning is likely to include Dan Fleming and Rhys Evans in the 21-man squad after their comeback in the reserves. Aaron Murphy is also close but Brad England is still another week away with his calf problem.
