A SELECTION of items from Bradford’s sporting past including pre-Second World War Bradford City programmes are set to go under the hammer in an online auction.

Postcards and matchday programmes from football and cricket are up for grabs on the Midland Sports Auctions website.

A programme from the Bradford City’s Division Two goalless draw with Burnley on September 28, 1935 is up for sale. The lot number is 249 and has an auctioneer’s estimate of between £120 and £150.

Another copy of The Parader is on offer at the auction. City’s programme from their 3-1 defeat against Tranmere Rovers from Christmas Day 1937. It is lot number 1189 is on as an auctioneer’s estimate of between £120 and £150.

The programme from City’s 3-0 loss at Swansea Town on January 2, 1937 is also due to go under the hammer. The pink coloured programme is lot number 511 at an estimate of £140 to £180.

Founded in 1912, Swansea Town was the original name for Swansea. Town changed the club’s name to City in 1969 to reflect Swansea’s new status as a city.

Meanwhile, Bradford (Park Avenue) fans can get hold of a piece of club history with a programme of what was the last match at their then ground.

The Northern Premier League match saw Avenue entertain Great Harwood on April 21, 1973. This item, lot number 1510, has an auctioneer’s estimate of £12 to £15.

Two original postcards of Yorkshire cricket player George Hirst are also up for auction.

He played for Yorkshire between 1891 and 1921 and played 24 Test matches for England. They are lot number 735 and up for between £35 and £40.

Speedway fans are catered for with a jacket from a clash between England Lions and Australia in 1997.

The jacket is priced between £150 and £180 and is lot number 1504.

Matthew Bytheway, of Midland Sports Auctions, said: “They are rare items, particularly the Bradford City pre-war programmes.

“The City programmes have been given to us by the same collector. For their age, they are in a very good condition.

“Bradford is a good area for sporting memorabilia and sporting items in general.

“There are very good collectors of sporting memorabilia in Bradford. They also seem to be well received.”

All of these items for the online auction will be available for bids from now until Sunday, April 24.
