AFTER a recent run of unfortunate results, Bradford City Women were able to steal some points away from Stockport County in a 1-1 draw at Horsfall on Sunday in FA Women's National League Division One North.

It moves the Bantams five points clear of the relegation zone, with four games of the season left.

The competitive game had chances throughout, with Stockport finding the net within the first 18 minutes of play.

Their attacker Jess Battle chased down a long ball, viciously working her way through City’s defence.

She tapped it across to her teammate Emily Bradshaw, who fired home to give Stockpot the lead.

The two sides continued to battle, and clearly both had improved since their first encounter nearly a month ago, a topsy-turvy encounter that the Bantams edged 3-2 with a last-gasp winner.

On this occasion, City tried to press but couldn’t make their mark on the scoresheet.

The second half was a different story as the Bantams started strong.

Striker Amy Beck soon drove into the box where she was subsequently brought down.

The referee made a quick decision to award a penalty which Charlotte Stuart stepped up to take.

The Bantams veteran struck the ball hard past the keeper and into the net, tying the two teams up and giving herself a 15th goal of the season.

City kept up their dominant approach throughout the rest of the half, with both Hope Knight and Sophie Hawkins getting some great chances, but they failed to convert them into goals.

There were no last-minute winners this time around, leaving each team with a point apiece.

Chris Hames, whose City side were thumped 5-1 by Chorley last time out, was extremely impressed with the team’s turnaround.

He said: “Overall I was happy with the performance. we dominated most of the game and had the best of chances.

“Bar one unlucky moment, we were defensively brilliant, and in attack we just lacked the clinical edge we’ve had in recent weeks.

“It’s nice to get another point on the board and build towards our goal.”

The first team and the Under-23s will have a double whammy next Sunday as they both face tough competition, Liverpool Feds, at home.

Brighouse Town Women remain in mid-table in the FAWNL Northern Premier Division after their 1-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Rachel Brown grabbed the only goal right at the death.

Brig have a busy week coming up, as they have their West Riding County Women's Cup final clash with Leeds United tomorrow.

That is followed by a league game at West Brom at the weekend, and then next Wednesday, they get the chance to visit Wolves, with this league encounter taking place at the iconic Molineux.
