BRADFORD City Women did not have any luck on their side on Thursday as their hosts Chorley Women gave them a 5-1 hammering in FA Women's National League Division One North

The first goal of night was scored just nine minutes in.

Chorley’s player put a fantastic long ball in, allowing their attacker to slip in behind Bradford’s defence.

She then quickly finished the job by slotting the ball past keeper Skye Kirkham.

It wasn’t long until City equalised as Sophie Hawkins picked out teammate Hope Knight, who was ready in the box.

Knight quickly finessed her shot and gave the team the equaliser after a quarter of an hour.

The two sides continued to test themselves as skipper Katy Woodcock tried to rally her team for a second goal, but Chorley beat them to it.

Midway through the first half, they pulled off the same long ball move as they had for their first goal and bagged themselves the lead.

City tried to equalise again and 35 minutes in, Knight darted through Chorley’s defence before being brought down in the box.

There were cries for a penalty, but the referee shook her head and allowed play to go on.

It wasn’t long later that the Magpies bagged their third goal of the evening.

They once again beat City’s offside trap and the attacker then easily finished the move by firing home.

City kept in touch in what was a very physical first half, however, it was Chorley who took a two-goal advantage into the break.

Just three minutes into the second half, Chorley’s attacker raced down the right side before crossing the ball into the box to her lone teammate.

She timed her shot and fired it home for their fourth goal of the night.

Just three minutes later, Chorley returned Kirkham’s goal kick with interest, with a long ball fired towards their attacker.

She worked her way through City’s defence before smashing the ball through them and into the goal.

Understandably frustrated by the scoreline and physical nature of the contest, Knight was cautioned after the linesman pulled the referee to the side after noticing something the spectators missed.

Not deterred, City carried on fighting as Charlotte Stuart released Knight with a through ball, but the linesman’s flag went up for offside.

In the final five minutes, Knight’s yellow card came back to haunt her, as she was giving a second one for dissent.

Fortunately, the game was over soon afterwards for City's 10 women and they will hope to shake off Thursday night’s disappointment when they play Stockport County Ladies at home tomorrow.
