CHRIS Hames' Bradford City Women side pulled off a sensational 3-2 comeback victory at Stockport County on Sunday in the FA Women's National League Division One North.

They had three recent signings in the squad, and it was the newest recruit off all who proved to be the hero, Emma Elliot guiding home a last-gasp header to steal victory for the Bantams at the death.

Stockport bagged the first goal of the game after 14 minutes, with their number 11 charged through City’s defence and knocked the ball over Bantams keeper Skye Kirkham and into the goal.

City’s defence were wilting as Stockport turned up the heat again, performing the same move again. This time though, they somehow missed in front of an open net.

After 26 minutes, Stockport bagged their second goal, catching the Bantams off guard with a counter-attack.

Their attacker did well to get through City’s defence and timed her shot perfectly, as it flew past Kirkham into the net. There were calls for offside, but the goal stood.

The Bantams ladies were determined to get back in the game though.

The two teams continued to test each other until Hope Knight made a brilliant run down the wing, before passing inside to Charlotte Stuart, who easily tapped the ball into the net to halve the deficit.

In the dying minutes of the first half, the Bantams screamed for a penalty when skipper Katy Woodcock looked to have been brought down in the box, but the referee allowed play to continue.

Ten minutes into the second half, City were awarded a spot-kick after a foul by the Stockport goalkeeper.

Stuart took it and sent the ball into the bottom left corner, via the hand of County's stopper.

Hames made his first substitution quickly afterwards, bringing new signing Rebekah McFadden on to the pitch for her debut.

She made her presence known early with some great pressing from herself and Knight.

Woodcock and her defence, which included new signing Chynna Harris, continued to hold strong as Stockport tried to catch City on the counter.

Seventy minutes in, County finally managed to break free, forcing Kirkham to make a fantastic save.

Elliot came on for her debut with 13 minutes left, and she was eager to make an impression.

After the City Women earned a vital free kick in the 89th minute, Maisie Norde put in a beautiful ball from out wide, which Elliot got her head to and guided it into the net.

She was quickly embraced by her new teammates, after clinching the Bantams a fantastic victory.

Hames was impressed with his team’s performance, in particular with his new signings.

He said: “It’s a huge win for us, and to get three points after turning it around, its really important.

“Emma got that final touch at the end and Rebekah has a great work rate, she changed the game in those last 20 minutes.”

The first team will be back at home once again this weekend, where they face lowly Barnsley.
