MARK Trueman is ready to think “outside the box” to solve City’s defensive dilemma against Harrogate tomorrow.

Matty Foulds should be back after missing the Oldham defeat through illness.

But caretaker boss Trueman still faces a selection headache with Paudie O’Connor suspended and Reece Staunton added to a casualty list that also includes Liam Ridehalgh and Oscar Threlkeld.

Trueman, who may look to change the formation, said: “We’ve got eight or nine out who could be starters. We find ourselves in a difficult position but we’re not going to use excuses.

“We’ve got a big squad and we want to put the best team out to try and win this game.

“It gives other players opportunities to keep the shirt and put in a performance.

“There will be a little bit of thinking outside the box and players that don’t always play in that backline might do.

“It’s difficult and I’ve had sleepless nights over it. Some players might have to play positions they are not comfortable with.

“That’s down to me and what I choose with regards the personnel I put out.”

But Foulds has handed City a boost by returning to training following his late withdrawal at the weekend.

Trueman added: “It was difficult having a phone call early doors and Matty not being available. I had to change the team and put someone in the 18 who wasn’t supposed to be.

“Matty is feeling better and hopefully he will be available for selection on Tuesday.

“He’s a good player. He shows that quality he’s got on the ball and he’s been aggressive in his one v one duels.

“If we can get Matty available to play a part in the game or start, then that’s only going to help us.”
