AJ WALLACE looks a steal for the Bulls after grabbing his Odsal opportunity.

The second-rower was picked up by John Kear when he was released by Leeds.

And Wallace has made an instant impression with the experienced coach, backing up a lively pre-season with a long-range individual try on his competitive debut against Dewsbury.

Kear said: “It just shows the number of good youngsters that Leeds have got. AJ was told there was no room for him because of what was in front of him.

“I understand that because you’ve got people like (Morgan) Gannon and Rhyse Martin and so on. But he can play as he has demonstrated.

“I’m really pleased for him and pleased with what he has contributed to the team.

“When these lads get a chance, then they seize it.

“He’s had a 10 out of 10 pre-season and I think a seven or eight performance against Dewsbury. He can feel very happy with what he’s done.”

The Bulls aim to follow up Sunday’s opening win when they face Sheffield in the first home game this weekend.

“You can’t expect to have a complete performance in round one and we didn’t get that,” added Kear.

“We had a very good one and the nice thing is that when it isn’t complete, it’s easy to identify the areas you need to pick up on. It gives us something to do in the week."
