AFTER eight years at the club, Zoe Roberts will be stepping down from her role as Bradford City Women vice-captain and leaving for pastures new.

Monika Stube will be taking over the role, starting this coming weekend against Chester le Street Town.

Last weekend's game against Durham Cestria was unfortunately cancelled in bizarre circumstances as a floodlight had fallen on to the pitch, making the game up in the North-East unplayable.

Chris Hames, the Bantams' head coach, is excited to see Stube step up to her new role when she is finally able to get going, and thinks she is up to the job.

He said: “It’s great for Monika to step up and take this responsibility.

“Since I’ve arrived here, no player has committed more, trained better, or shown as much passion for progression than Monika.

“I know I’m asking a lot of her, but she can use this to push herself and her teammates.”

This weekend, the Bantams will be back on the road against Chester le Street, hoping to gain some points in their FA Women's National League Division One North battle.

They currently sit in 11th position, second-bottom, but with four games in hand on some of the teams above, they’re hoping to gain a crucial three points.

Hames said that the game will be tough, but he wants results.

He said: “We want to approach the game with confidence and belief in ourselves and aim to get as much as we can from the fixture.”

Despite the first team’s game being cancelled last Sunday, the Under-23s were away against Middlesbrough for another FAWNL Reserve Northern Division game.

The Boro ladies are fighting for the title, and they punished the Bantams in the first half, managing to get three goals past the disorganised visitors.

However, City winger Jess Hayes managed to get one goal back from a corner in the 65th minute.

In the final minutes of the game, striker Crystal Knapton was brought down inside the box, but despite shouts from both City’s coaches and fans, a penalty was not awarded.

The game therefore finished 3-1 to the side from the North-East.
