ANDY Cook marks a year at Valley Parade tomorrow with a goal ratio of one in every two games.

As City appear to be moving in on a new loan striker, the man originally borrowed from Mansfield in January 2021 continues to set a high bar.

Cook’s late penalty to clinch the win at his former club Walsall last night was his ninth of the season – and 17th in 34 league starts since joining the Bantams.

He has also appeared in all eight of the wins in this campaign.

Derek Adams admitted the big man was flagging towards the end but felt he could not take him off – and got the rewards when Cook blasted the spot-kick past home keeper Carl Rushworth.

Adams said: “The difficulty with making changes in the game was height. They had really good height in their team and I had to be careful because they were dangerous at set-plays.

“I could have made other changes but the height difference was going to make that difficult.

“Andy defends the corners at the front-post area and he did head it a number of times. I felt that I couldn’t take him off.

“He was running out of steam but he was there at the end to get the penalty and put it away.

“With George Miller and himself scoring and getting stick from both sets of supporters but that’s what happens. We’ve seen it already this season.”

While Cook maintained his prolific run, Huddersfield loanee midfielder Matty Daly opened his account with the deflected first goal. Now Adams wants to see more from him.

“He’s still got a lot more to come,” added the City boss. “He has shown glimpses of what he can do in the first two games.

“Now needs to step up and make his mark.”
