PORTSMOUTH keeper Alex Bass is rumoured to be set to sign on loan for City.

According to a report from Football Insider, the 23-year-old is the target that Derek Adams is about to add to his squad.

Adams has been linked with bringing in another keeper with sources claiming that Ipswich stopper Tomas Holy was a possible recruit.

But it is now thought that Bass will be on his way to Valley Parade.

Bass is highly thought of by Portsmouth but has been limited to just seven appearances this season because of the form of Republic of Ireland international Gavin Bazunu, who is on loan at Fratton Park from Manchester City.

Bass has featured twice in the league and kept clean sheets both times in wins at Fleetwood and Wycombe.

Pompey head coach Danny Cowley confirmed yesterday that Bass would be going out on loan.

He said: “Letting Alex go out hurts the team because, as we all know, he is a top League One goalkeeper and it has been great competition between him and Gavin fighting for that number one spot.

“But if we are doing the right thing by Alex, then he has to go and play. He hasn’t played for a year and a half now, not regularly.”

Bass was not in the Portsmouth squad for their game at Sunderland.

Adams said after the Rochdale game that he hoped to have another signing in place in time to go to Walsall on Tuesday.
