CITY are battling Rotherham to sign an Irish talent after making Matty Daly their third capture of the window.

Huddersfield midfielder Daly yesterday completed his loan move to Valley Parade having been recalled from a spell with Hartlepool.

The 20-year-old trained with the squad for the first time and follows January recruits Dion Pereira and Jamie Walker.

Derek Adams also revealed that the Bantams are competing with League One high-flyers Rotherham for a player in Ireland.

A report in the Derry Journal  linked both clubs with Bohemians striker Georgie Kelly, who finished top scorer in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division last season with 21 goals. The 25-year-old was also named PFAI player of the year.

It is claimed that Kelly is now looking to leave Irish football and prove himself elsewhere. There is also reported interest from clcubs in Denmark and Holland.

“We are in the market for a player in Ireland at this moment – not to buy him but he’s got freedom of contract,” said Adams.

“We have got competition from League One clubs. We just feel that we might be able to get him because of being Bradford City and the player might be able to play week in, week out.

“At the top end of League One that might not happen.

“We’re going against Rotherham United at this moment for a player and I can understand why he would want to go there and the opportunity of making it to the Championship.

“But there’s the other side of it that he might not get as much game time as he would do with us. We’re able to then propel him to the next level.

“But I understand that sometimes when you get that opportunity of playing at a higher level, you want to test yourself and show you can do it. I’ve done that in the past.”
