IT HAS not worked out at Farsley Celtic for Bantams legend James Hanson, who leaves the West Yorkshire club after just six months.

The 34-year-old Bradfordian, who ranks third in City’s all-time goalscoring list with 90, arrived at The Citadel in July after being released by Grimsby.

He looked all set to form a potent strike partnership with Jimmy Spencer, but only netted four times in 14 National League North appearances.

The club are sat second-bottom of the table, just five points off the drop, and even worse, Hanson has just signed for their divisional rivals Boston United, who Farsley play next Tuesday.

The loss of Hanson to Boston was part of a crazy week of turnover for Farsley, who also released Joel Byrom and Jordan Richards from their contracts by mutual agreement, and let Tyler Walton go to Southport on loan.

They did sign Stavros Tserpes from Ashton United on Saturday though.

With the big clear out, there were rumours of trouble at Farsley, but in a club statement, they reassured fans by saying: “In what has been a tough couple of weeks on and off the pitch we have also seen the departures of several playing staff from the club.

“It is in regards to this that we would like to reassure supporters, and also give them some assurances as to how we will be moving forward.

“Although we have seen a few departures, we would like to reiterate (contrary to some comments on social media and in the public domain) that the playing budget set in July remains the same.

“(Manager) Neil Ross and (assistant) Steve Payne will continue to work within those guidelines and bring in additional playing staff to move us up the league table.”
