ELLIOT Watt will not become side-tracked by any fresh transfer talk in the window.

The City midfielder has been the subject of speculation and gossip in the past – and Derek Adams recently revealed that Watt’s agent has fielded a couple of enquiries from clubs.

Watt is among 13 players in the squad who will be out of contract in the summer as Adams insists he is not in any rush to begin negotiations over possible new deals.

But the 21-year-old is not allowing his head to be turned by any reports of a potential move away.

Watt said: “It’s irrelevant to me - like people giving me stick on Twitter or social media.

“I’m here at Bradford and the most important thing to me is about being the best player I can be in training and then performing for Bradford City on a Saturday.

“Rumours, or whatever you want to call it, mean nothing to me.

“I’m obviously under contract at Bradford City and until I’m not I’ll give my all for the club to get them back to where they should be.”

There were several scouts at Valley Parade for City’s last game against Sutton when Watt produced his best performance of the season.

His display earned plaudits from Adams, who praised Watt’s work off the ball – an area that the midfielder knows needs improving.

“It’s the side of the game that has maybe been questioned of me,” he added.

“It’s about recognising what the game needs at certain times, like when gaps need plugging and I can go and be aggressive in the press or the tackle.

“It’s about delaying and getting more bodies behind the ball and things like that and I feel it’s turning into one of my strengths now.

“It’s massively important playing in midfield because if I go and sell myself, then teams are in behind me and they are at the back four.

“A lot of the time it’s about screening and delaying things to get the other midfielders and strikers back behind the ball.

“I’ve learned a lot under the gaffer this season. He doesn’t give you a minute’s rest – which is obviously what I need to keep improving and reach the potential I think I have.”

Meanwhile, reports in Scotland are linking City and League One strugglers Lincoln with Dundee midfielder Shaun Byrne.
