DEREK Adams has revealed that he enjoys the mid-season transfer window – as he dismissed a link with his former chief scout.

Adams shot down a national report that he was interested in bringing in Salford head of recruitment Greg Strong.

His former Motherwell team-mate spent two years working for the City boss at Plymouth before joining the Ammies.

But Adams stressed that he would not be adding to the team of scouts that he brought in a couple of months ago to replace Lee Turnbull.

“I don’t comment on tittle-tattle,” he said. “(But) I’ve added three scouts to the recruitment department and I’m not looking to add to that.

“We had three in the department with a head of recruitment. We made the change and added the three to that.

“There was no extra cost to us taking in the three. It was actually a reduction.”

Adams is traditionally a busy operator in the January window and is building up to another hectic month as he tries to sharpen up a squad currently mid-table in League Two.

Chief executive Ryan Sparks has made it clear that City are in a “decent position” financially heading towards next month and the groundwork is underway.

Adams said: “We’re obviously speaking to clubs and agents about the possibility of taking players in. That’s always the case.

“But at this moment in time, we haven’t got anyone signed for January. That doesn’t happen and I would think no other team in this league would be doing that.

“People just wait to see what their options are.

“Things can change, that’s the biggest issue. You can get so close and then a player might make a different decision or his club might have an injury crisis.

“All these things then fall away.

“You can only work with the three parties involved – the club, the player and the other club – and until that comes to an agreement you’re as close or as far away until that signed document is completed.”

But Adams is ready for the challenge of reinvigorating City for the second half of the campaign.

“I enjoy the January window. You have to do it quickly, it’s not like the summer one.

“You’ve got a month to do your business and get it underway.

“You can start before that but it does go really quickly in a short space of time.

“You’ve got no choice on that. You can’t hang about for too long because you need to have players coming in through the door.”

There are currently no loan players in the squad but that is a market that Adams is planning to tap into – and not necessarily with youngsters from higher divisions.

City brought in Andy Cook from Mansfield at the end of January last season and he went on to score eight goals before making his move permanent in the summer.

Adams added: “We’ve got that opportunity to take in five loan players and if ones come along then we’ll do that.

“They might be from League One, even League Two. You just don’t know.

“It depends on the circumstances of another club as well.

“When another club doesn’t want a player, you’ve got to be in a position if he does fit into your style of play.”

Meanwhile, City are deciding if Abo Eisa needs hamstring surgery.
