IT was only a few weeks ago that Bulls Women captain Grace Ramsden was talking about how much she was looking forward to her side being competitive in the upcoming Super League 2 season.

But just like that, she has gone, making the move down to Warrington.

Discussing the sudden U-turn, and her signing for one of Bradford’s Super League 2 rivals, she said: “Warrington approached me just after I last spoke to you (the T&A), asking if I wanted to go down and take a look at the facilities there.

“I went with an open mind, just to see what they had to offer, and there seems to be a real focus on success there.

“I couldn’t really turn them down after I’d visited to be honest.

“They’ve recruited well in the off-season, which will give them an advantage in Super League 2 next year, and just by the way they’re treated pre-season, it’s clear they really want all the girls to progress.

“The club as a whole seems really invested in their women, wanting them to be equal to the men, and I think in three years, we’ll be in a different position to where we are now.

“If we keep the girls here at Warrington that we’ve got now, I see big progression in the next few years, maybe even challenging the likes of Leeds and St Helens for the Super League 1 title.”

Ramsden is still only 23, and asked about her own individual goals going forward, the talented hooker said: “Over the next two or three years, I’d love to try and gain an international cap.

“It’s something that’s important to me and something I certainly want to achieve before the end of my career.

“It’s something I can strive for under good coaching, and I’m still learning all the time being just 23.”

Ramsden bears no ill will towards Bulls after her departure, saying: “It was a great group to be a part of there, and I’d never want to see them struggle.

“But I do think some teams will struggle more than others next year, which was part of my thinking in going to Warrington.

“Bradford have brought Stacey Greenwood and Amy Boardman back from Wigan though, which is a huge coup for them. Those signings will stand them in good stead as they’re both experienced players within the women’s game.

“Bulls can still attract quality players as they’re such a good side to play for. It’s an enjoyable club to be a part of.”

The other headline squad news at Bulls sees Sarah Dunn join Danielle Bose in retiring from the game, and last season’s double club award winner Jess Harrap return for another year in the red, amber and black.

There are 10 new faces, including Greenwood and Boardman, in total so far.
