MATTY Foulds insists City have the character to battle it out with the best in League Two.

Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Port Vale maintained their recent unbeaten run against the highest-ranked sides in the division.

With Exeter up again tomorrow in the FA Cup first-round replay at St James’ Park, Foulds believes the Bantams have shown they can live in that company.

He said: “Port Vale was probably the biggest test we’ve had. They have been on a run of scoring five against everybody and we’ve come away and got a point.

“Their fans were pretty vocal and you’ve got to show your character. The fans are on to us and on to the referee but you’ve got to leave them to get on with it and just enjoy the game.

“We are playing very well. Keep performing like that, we’ll get wins and we’ll be up there.

“We’ve got another six-hour journey to Exeter now but we definitely want to get on a cup run.

“Beat them and we play Northampton or Cambridge – get through that and you might be up against a big club in the third round. That’s what everybody wants - the club and the fans.

“We don’t want to lose a game. We want to keep this run going and it puts a marker down if we can beat a team up there in the league.”

Foulds played the second half at Vale Park as a right wing-back when Liam Ridehalgh came on after Oscar Threlkeld was subbed to save the risk of being sent off.

Derek Adams was impressed with how well Foulds coped with changing to a position where has played only once this season.

Adams said: “I asked Matty Foulds at half-time about going to right back and he said, ‘no problem’. That’s the type of attitude he’s got and he acquitted himself very well.

“You can see the type of player he is from Everton and being there for many years. He is growing in confidence with each week.”

Foulds added: “I just got on with it, that’s the kind of person I am. I trust myself to do my best and hopefully it comes off.

“It’s a good thing that I can go to right back or centre back as well. It benefits me and the team because if anyone gets injured or anything I can slot in and do my job.

“Liam’s back now so it’s competition for us both and we’ll push each other to the limits to try to get the starting spot in the team.”
