DEREK Adams lauded City’s win at Swindon and declared: “We could have had five or six.”

Caolan Lavery and Theo Robinson got off the mark and Levi Sutton also netted in a 3-1 victory at the County Ground.

It was the perfect comeback after the midweek home loss to Hartlepool and Adams was delighted with his team’s display – even if it was not as emphatic as he felt it should have been.

“It was a really good performance,” he said. “We took the game to Swindon and created so many opportunities.

“We should have won by a greater margin but we come away winning against a team that were sitting third in the table.

“We knew we would be able to pick Swindon off. We knew they would have a lot of the ball because they’ve got some very good technical players.

“But we allowed them to play in front of us and they didn’t hurt us.

“It gave us the opportunity to run off them and we saw that so many times. We could have had five or six goals and nobody could complain.”

Lavery scored on his full debut to net the opener after Adams switched formation to partner the Canadian up front with Andy Cook while going with three at the back.

Adams added: “I’m delighted for Lavery to get a goal.

“He’s a very intelligent player. He knows the game really well and his link-up play with Andy Cook in open play was really good.

“We changed our formation to suit us. We dealt with the full backs and the two up front.

“We knew we could get at their back two as well and that’s how it panned out.

“They had a lot of possession in front of us. But possession means nothing, opportunity and goals mean everything.

“That’s the way I’ve always seen it and had very good success to create opportunities to win games.

“In the big moments, we dealt well with the threat Swindon had.”

Robinson’s goal came from only his second touch after being set up by fellow sub Gareth Evans. They had both been on the pitch for less than a minute.

Cook missed a great chance to score but Adams was pleased to see the other strikers get up and running.

“It’s good that they are scoring goals now. We’ve had a setback with injuries and we’re slowly getting them back into the frame.

“They can provide competition for places and it’s going to be really beneficial for us.”

Callum Cooke missed the trip with a bruised foot while Charles Vernam was left unused on the bench.
