DEREK Adams admitted City “should have been out of sight” after Bristol Rovers snatched a last-gasp point at Valley Parade.

Brett Pitman headed their second equaliser as the Bantams were pegged back for a 2-2 draw.

It followed a one-sided first half when they had 15 efforts on goal – compared to none from the visitors.

Charles Vernam scored in that time and Andy Cook added a second to restore the lead within two minutes of Bristol Rovers equalising with their first attempt.

But Pitman stunned the home side with a thumping header in the 90th minute.

Adams said: “We should have been out of sight at half-time. We created so many good openings and haven’t put them in the net.

“We know that sometimes happens in football. But Bristol Rovers will be delighted to have come away with a point today – and I would be as well if I was them.

“There’s no question they got out of jail. We’ve dominated the game in terms of creating chances and done as well as I’ve seen this season for large spells.

“We’re all disappointed it’s one point because it should have been three. We looked a well-oiled team today.

“But if you don’t get that third goal, you always give the opposition an opportunity.”

Vernam, Callum Cooke and Levi Sutton all had good chances in the first half and Cook thought he should have had a first-minute penalty for hand ball.

Adams added: “I thought it was a very good performance from us. The first half was excellent – the way we passed the ball and moved and created things was a joy to watch.

“They scored a goal with a quick start to the second half and then we got angry.

“We saw with the play we had we should have scored more than the two goals we did today. But we didn’t and have allowed them to get a killer equaliser.

“I thought we should have stopped the cross but it’s a fantastic header.

“We all know about Pitman. We’ve watched his career for so long and that’s what he does – he pulls off the back.

“I said that to them at half-time. He can’t run, but he can take a ball in and he can head it – and he certainly did that.”

Liam Ridehalgh added to City’s casualty list with a thigh injury that forced him off in the first half.

Adams also revealed that Abo Eisa had suffered a setback in the warm-up in training yesterday with a recurrence of his hamstring problem.

The City boss said: “He’s going to be out again for a period of time, which is hard to take.

“I was hoping to get him on today. Abo back here with the way that he plays would have been a good addition for us.”
