DEREK Adams played down the stick he got at Newport and insisted: “I didn’t hear anything.”

The Bantams boss got a hostile reception from the home fans in the 0-0 draw at Rodney Parade following his comments about the Welsh side following Morecambe’s Wembley win last season.

Adams was also booked in a heated finish to the game.

But he said: “I didn’t actually hear anything this afternoon.

“People were saying beforehand (that there would be some abuse) but I didn’t hear anything today.”

Asked about the booking, the Scot added: “I put the match ball back onto the pitch. I knocked it back on and their number two (Cameron) Norman took one of ours out of the warm-up bag and wanted to take the throw-in.

“The referee didn’t understand that but I’ll get an apology off him soon.”

Adams was happy to leave with a point from what he thought was City’s toughest game of the season.

“I thought we started the game very well,” he said. “We got into Newport from the start of the game and got down the sides of them, which caused them a lot of trouble.

“But, in the end, we’ve haven’t picked the right pass or had the shot at goal to get that first goal.

“It was a bit of a topsy-turvy afternoon. I would say we had the better of the first half and Newport had the better of the second.

“We had to deal with a lot of pressure. In seasons gone by, we probably would have lost that game but I think the mental strength was there today.

“This is a difficult venue to come to and I thought we dealt well with the whole occasion.

“I think this is the toughest game we’ve had this season. We haven’t come up against a team who threw everything at us like they did – they put crosses into the box and corners and free-kicks.”
