BRADFORD City Women put in solid performances in their four pre-season matches and ahead of their FA Women's National League Division One North opener at home to Chorley today, we look at exactly how they got on.

JULY 18 - CITY 3 FARSLEY 2

The pre-season kicked off at the Mitton Group Stadium on July 18 against Farsley Celtic.

Initially, the team had a slow start and two unlucky goals saw them 2-0 down by half-time.

In the blistering heat, the team brought it back after the break, ending the game with a fine 3-2 win.

JULY 25 - HULL 2 CITY 4

The second game was away against Hull City Ladies on July 25.

The Bantams were not shaken by the pressure of playing away and put in a strong performance.

Striker Amy Beck came out strong, giving the team a hat-trick. The game ended 4-2 after the Tigresses put two goals past the Bantams in the second half.

AUGUST 1 - CITY 4 LINCOLN 2

AUGUST 1 - CITY U23S 2 DONCASTER BELLES 1

Fans were treated to a double whammy of games on August 1, which the Under-23s kicked off on the morning against the Doncaster Belles.

Despite it being the team’s first match together, they came out on top with a 2-1 win.

After the success of the Under-23s, the first team had expectations to live up to.

The team had shot after shot in the first half, before Amy Beck and Keegan Lambert found the net.

In the second half, their opponents Lincoln City Women came back strongly and made it 2-2.

However the Bantams held their ground and a brace by Sophie Hawkins gave them a 4-2 victory.

“We’ve had a good pre-season after a long time away,” said coach Chris Hames after the match. “Everyone’s improving, which is my job at the end of the day.”

AUGUST 8 - DARWEN 2 CITY 5

AUGUST 8 - CITY U23S 2 LEEDS 8

The first team’s final pre-season match was played against Darwen in Accrington on August 8.

Once again, the team got off to a slow start in a painful first half, where they were down 2-0 by the interval.

A change of plan at half-time helped the team bring it back in the second half and the game ended in incredible style at 5-2 for the Bantams.

Zoe Roberts scored a penalty, which was then followed by a goal from Keegan Lambert and a hat-trick by Sophie Hawkins.

Unfortunately, it was a different story at home for the Under-23s, who suffered a crushing defeat against Leeds United Under-23s.

The pressure was too much and the game ended at 8-2 after the team failed to find a rhythm.

Multiple changes and the continuous onslaught from the Peacocks turned out to be a recipe for a disaster.

However, these defeats will allow the team to iron out any weaknesses ahead of their season.

After a dramatic pre-season, captains Katy Woodcock and Ellie Edwards say they are determined to support their teams and be leaders.

Woodcock, the Bantams first team captain and defender, has been at Bradford City since she was 13.

She said: “We want to score as many goals as we can this season.

“Obviously, everyone wants to do well and get promoted, but I would be happy if we got to the top half of the table.

“We’ve been given the target of 47 points this season, so that’s what we’re working towards.

“In our pre-season games we’ve looked really threatening, and we’ve been working really hard.

“It’s great to have the fans back too, just to have that atmosphere around you when you’re playing at home.”

The Under-23s captain, Edwards, is also a defender. She has been playing for the club for 10 seasons.

She said: “My main aim for the team this year is to bond. We’re all doing really well even though we have a fairly new team.”

While the first team get their league campaign underway today, the Under-23s’ first match will be away against Stockport County Reserves on September 5.
