DEREK Adams was impressed with his side from front to back, as Accrington were forced to resort to some crude tactics in City's 2-0 win at the Wham Stadium this afternoon.

A couple of nasty challenges led to bookings for the Accies, and fortunately no injuries for the Bantams, as they failed to stop a rampant City from recording their sixth win of pre-season.

Adams said: "I thought it was a bit much. They obviously had two bookings for late challenges, but they had to stop us.

"We were getting into good areas at the time and causing them problems. They'll probably say they were good fouls from them.

"But over the afternoon, I thought we had a thoroughly good performance going into the first game of the season."

That first half was particularly impressive, with Adams saying: "We played really well and got on the front foot early.

"It was a really impressive performance, we created a load of chances in the first half and were unlucky not to be more than 2-0 ahead at half-time."

He reserved praise for two-goal Andy Cook too, saying: "That first goal he went past a few players, and though his teammates maybe felt he should have passed it, he went round them and finished it really well.

"The second one was a great header and over the afternoon, Andy had a very good game.

"He caused Accrington problems, as did Lee Angol and Alex Gilliead.

"But even in the midfield, I thought that we dealt well with the Accrington formation. We knew what they'd play and we'd worked on it for a few days."

City were not exactly under the cosh after the break, but still had to produce some good defending to keep a clean sheet.

And Adams said: "They put a number of crosses into the box that we had to deal with, but we dealt well with them and won our headers.

"It was quite strange, because up the slope both teams did well and down the slope they didn't, but over the afternoon, to come away to a League One side and win, we're happy."

Addressing the absence of full-back Liam Ridehalgh, Adams said: "He was unwell today, so that was why he missed out.

"But Matty Foulds came in and I thought he was superb, so I'm delighted for him."
