ELLIOT Whitehead is going to continue his spell at Canberra Raiders, having penned a new deal to take him to the end of 2024.

The 31-year-old forward, from Bradford, has made 138 appearances for Canberra since his move Down Under ahead of the 2016 season. He helped the Raiders reach the NRL Grand Final in 2019.

Whitehead is expected to return to play this weekend after a few weeks out with a shoulder injury so it's a double bit of good news.

He told the club: "It's really pleasing to get the deal done and now I can just focus on my rugby."

The former West Bowling junior made his name with hometown side Bulls, joining in 2005 and making his debut as a teenager against Wakefield in June 2009.

He played 109 times in Bradford colours over his five seasons there, scoring 39 tries.

His former Bulls team-mate John Bateman spent a couple of seasons with him in Canberra, but the ex-Bradford Dudley Hill man returned to England to join Wigan ahead of the 2021 season.
