BRADFORD City Women have pulled off a real coup, with the signing of Ellie Russell from Sheffield United.

She has pedigree at a high level, having previously played for the South Yorkshire side's city rivals, Sheffield FC, in Women's Super League 2.

She is a player boss Chris Hames knows well, having managed her in the past.

He posted on Twitter: "Unbelievably happy and excited to finally announce this one.

"A player I’ve been lucky enough to work with in the past; as soon as I knew Russ was available, I had to make sure we got this one done.

"Welcome to City Ellie."

The young midfielder joins up with 18 new team-mates ahead of City's FA Women's National League Division One North campaign, which begins on August 15 at home to Chorley.

City's retained list for the upcoming season is as follows:

- Amy-Leigh Barrington-Beck

- Bethany Shepherd

- Caitlyn Douglas

- Charlotte Gill

- Charlotte Sales

- Elanna Prothero

- Ella Jacobs

- Ellie Edwards

- Hannah Richards

- Harriet Jakeman

- Jessica Dunlop

- Katy Woodcock

- Keegan Lambert

- Maisie Norde

- Monika Stube

- Sophie Hawkins

- Victoria Thomas

- Zoe Roberts

Further to this, club legend Charlotte Stuart will continue in her role of player/assistant manager for the upcoming campaign.

City are finding some decent form ahead of the new season, having secured a fine 4-2 win against a young Hull City side in a friendly over the weekend.

The game was goalless at the half hour mark, but the Bantams showed their class leading up to the interval, scoring three times in 15 minutes to establish a 3-0 lead.

Hull hit back immediately after the break, but Hames' side soon regained their three-goal lead.

The Humberside grabbed a late consolation to give the scoreline a more respectable look.

City's Women, having made that trip across Yorkshire to face the Tigresses, are back on home soil this weekend, with a home game against Lincoln at Eccleshill's Mitton Group Stadium (Sunday - 2:30pm).

The club's Under-23s host Doncaster Belles at Rawdon Meadows (Sunday - 10:30am).
