DEREK Adams believes City achieved what they wanted from their latest pre-season win against Brighouse.

First-half goals from Ollie Crankshaw, Gareth Evans and Kian Scales made it four out of four from the friendlies with a 3-1 victory at the Yorkshire Payments Stadium.

Adams switched his side round from the previous night’s win at Guiseley – and 10 of the starting line-up played the entire game.

He said: “It was all about doing that, we spoke about it after Guiseley.

“We’ve gone to play Guiseley and Brighouse Town and given both clubs and the supporters the chance to see the whole squad.

“There were 1,700 at Guiseley and over 1,000 here and that has helped both clubs from a money point of view.

“We’ve taken the whole first-team squad. I know some of them didn’t get on the pitch because they played the previous night but to see all the players there was great for them.

“We’ve come through without any injuries, which is hugely beneficial. We’ve got out of it what we needed.”

Adams was pleased to see the goals shared around as City kept up their winning run in pre-season.

“We got Crankshaw, Scales and Gareth Evans scoring. The other night it was Lee Angol and before that Andy Cook.

“You look at it and it’s good for the confidence that they are scoring goals.

“We’ve got 23 players in the squad and they are all staking a claim to start the first game of the season. I think that’s important.

“We’ve got youthfulness in the squad but we’ve got experience as well.”
