BRADFORD Bulls Women head coach Mark Seal is excited for Monday night, with most of his side getting the chance to make their Odsal bow.

They will be taking on rock-bottom Wakefield in the Women’s Super League, looking for their second win in three league games.

Seal said: “It’s a big plus for the girls to play in Bradford, as all our home games have been held in Warrington and Wakefield this season (due to Covid protocols).

“It’ll be so good to have that home crowd and it’s exciting as there’s only a handful of our current squad that have played there before, as we have a lot of youngsters or new signings.

“The small pitch at Odsal at the moment is something we’re aware of, but we’re not overly concerned, and it’s something we’ve taken into account at training over the last couple of weeks.

“It’s the same for both teams at the end of the day.”

Asked if Monday night rugby was awkward given the Bulls Women are a part-time side, Seal said: “Obviously that’s something they don’t have to take into account in men’s Super League.

“The game is at a difficult time of the week, and we’ve had to give some of the girls good notice so they could change their shifts to play.”

Wakefield have lost all five of their Super League games, and while Bulls have only won once, Seal is hoping for a strong end to the season.

He said: “We had the hardest start we could have had in St Helens and then off the back of that we had tough games and a lot of injuries.

“We were coming out of that by the Warrington game and it showed with us getting our first win.

“But we had injury problems again which peaked with us having to call last weekend’s game with York off (the City Knights were awarded a 24-0 win).

“It was disappointing, but it was a matter of player welfare.

“We won’t be at full strength, but a lot of the girls will be returning for the Wakefield game, as will a couple who were pinged as close Covid contacts.

“We haven’t had any positive cases ourselves, so I think we’ve managed that quite well this year.”

Asked about the goals Bulls Women have, Seal added: “This season, being realistic, was just about trying to be competitive with the top teams.

“A good run in the end of season Shield is what we’re after, as I think the top four play-offs might be a stretch, and hopefully we can find some good form, starting this weekend.

“Long-term, it’s been tough to lose established players like Amy Hardcastle, but me and my assistants Christian (Moorhouse) and Chris (Ramsden) have been building the squad for the next two or three years.

“It’s not the finished product, as we’re looking long-term.

“But you can see the improvement just from that opening game against Saints to now already.”

Monday night’s game at Odsal against Wakefield kicks off at 7:45pm, and is free for Under-16s. An adult ticket costs just £5.
