HE was a heavily-linked transfer target back in January, though City's interest seems to have cooled of late.

But with Conor McAleny's future at Oldham still up in the air, just days before he is due to become a free agent, could the Bantams go back in for the proven League Two striker?

City did not sign McAleny in the end over the winter transfer window, instead opting for another Oldham striker in Danny Rowe.

And though that move showed early promise, Rowe was often rotated out of the team in favour of Andy Cook, leading to him joining Chesterfield barely three months after walking through the door at Valley Parade.

In the meantime, McAleny continued to plough on with the Latics, ending up with 17 goals in 40 League Two appearances in 2020/21, with 21 strikes overall for the season.

The former Everton academy star may still choose to stay at Oldham yet, and City's problem, if they do go for him, is that he will have plenty of suitors.

Ipswich are said to be interested, with the lure of a big League One surely tempting, but Tranmere and Salford are also supposedly sniffing around.

League One new boys Cambridge and Morecambe are also rumoured to be chasing McAleny too.

The Bantams have of course already signed two new strikers in this transfer window, with Andy Cook and Lee Angol both coming in.
