CITY released Connor Wood at the end of the season, meaning they are likely to be in the market for at least one new left-back.

A few names have been touted as potential replacements, including that of experienced Tranmere man Liam Ridehalgh, but could new Bantams boss Derek Adams go for another of his former charges?

He has already snapped up his former Plymouth utility man Oscar Threlkeld, and many expect him to make a move for midfielder Yann Songo'o.

But what about left-back Stephen Hendrie?

Adams brought him into Morecambe at the start of last season, and he featured in 36 of their 46 league games during the 2020/21, before playing in the first leg of their play-off semi-final victory over Tranmere.

Sadly, he picked up an ankle injury in that one, ruling him out of the second leg and the final, which saw Morecambe beat Newport 1-0 to earn a surprise promotion to League One.

After just one season at Morecambe, a successful one at that, would it be too much of a stretch to envisage him doing a job at City?

Scotsman Hendrie, who is 26, broke through at Hamilton, where he helped them earn promotion to the Scottish Premiership in 2014.

He joined West Ham off the back of that in 2015, but failed to play a single competitive game for the club, and before Morecambe, was best known in England for two separate spells at Southend.

Hendrie has also spent time on loan at Blackburn and Motherwell, while he had a brief spell at Kilmarnock before joining Morecambe.
