BRIGHOUSE snowboarder Katie Ormerod is “delighted” with the conclusion of her season on the mountains, as her Olympic dream draws ever closer.

An eighth-place finish in the Big Air World Cup, Kreischberg, in January set the tone for an extremely successful season for Ormerod.

And despite suffering a minor shoulder injury post event, the Olympic snowboarder bounced back to achieve all her season goals, after being out for six weeks.

A trip to Colorado in March saw Ormerod return to action, competing in the Slopestyle and Big Air World Cup events, where she landed all her runs, but a standout result for the Brighouse star was a sixth place finish in the Slopestyle World Cup, in Switzerland.

As a result of her fine form on the snow, Ormerod is in touching distance of an Olympic spot. With 30 women spaces up for grabs, the speedster is thrilled to be placed in third, ahead of a summer of training.

She said: “First of all, it was great to be back, and I felt extremely lucky that I was able to be out snowboarding this season and having the opportunity to qualify for the Olympics.

“After my minor injury setback in January, the World Cup in Colorado allowed me to get straight back on my snowboard.

“I went there with goals to land my runs and get some points for the Olympic qualifying, which is exactly what I did. So, I accomplished all my goals when I was there, and I was really pleased with my results.

“Overall, I think it has been an amazing season for me. I achieved everything I wanted to and more because I learnt some new tricks too.

“And to finish third overall in the Olympic qualifying, I couldn’t be sat in a better position. I’ve also met the British Criteria, so the only other part of qualifying is to stay in the top 30, but as I’m already sat in third, it’s only a positive thing for me.”

The Brighouse trickster will face one more season, before a potential Olympic bout, however, she feels she has done enough already to earn a spot in the top 30.

She said: “We do have one more season, which should take place from November to January. The World Cup events will count towards qualifying, but I’ll be looking at them events as practice in the lead up to the Olympics. I’m in a really good position even without that season, so It will be quite exciting to build on what I’ve already done.”

Back on home turf, Ormerod is heading into a summer of preparation in the lead up to next season.

And discussing her plans, she said: "It's definitely nice to be home, but it also felt like quite a short season, so I'm definitely excited to get back snowboarding again and to train. I'm going to stick to what I've been doing this season and last season, which is focusing on my training.

"Over the summer, I will work really hard on my strength and conditioning, my gymnastic skills, which translate to snowboarding, and when we do have the opportunity to go back to snow, it will probably be on the glaciers."
