Bulls coach Mick Potter says the door is open for trialist Phil Joseph to “resurrect his career” at Odsal.

Potter is currently assessing the qualities of the Huddersfield-based forward, who has been training with Bradford for the past fortnight.

Joseph, 26, has previously played on a part-time basis at Swinton Lions but is understood to be keen to make the switch to full-time rugby.

Having previously trained with Huddersfield, Potter became alerted to the forward’s ability by Giants coach Nathan Brown.

Potter explained: “Phil was doing a bit of training with Huddersfield and I got a phone call from Nathan Brown saying there was a potential player who was worth looking at.

“He’s been playing at Swinton and has got a bit of time to invest that he didn’t have when he was younger.

“He wants a real crack at it and he’s still in his mid-twenties. He’s still got the potential and it looks like he’s got some good leg speed and a good physique.”

Joseph – who has had previous spells with a number of clubs, including Halifax and Hull KR – can operate in a number of positions in the pack, although he is seen ostensibly as a prop.

And having impressed Potter in training, Joseph is set to play some part in the Bulls’ pre-season games.

“Phil can play in the front row, which is probably an area we’ve been weakest, so the opportunity is there for him,” added Potter.

“Let’s hope he can resurrect his career.

“The last few years he’s only been playing part-time.

“Let’s hope he can make a go of full-time training and be a part of our top team.

“The way he’s going in training I couldn’t be happier with him at the moment. We’ll see how he goes in the trial games.”
