Craig Kopczak can’t wait to get the chance to become the first Bulls player to appear at the new Wembley Stadium.

The Bulls prop, named supporters’ player of the year, has been included in the revised Wales 34-man train-on squad for the forthcoming Gillette Four Nations series.

And now that Kopczak has virtually shaken off the niggling neck injury that forced him to miss the Bulls’ final game of the season at Wakefield – so wrecking his ever-present in 2011 status and ending a 48-match run of consecutive appearances for the club – he is fully focused on his return to the international scene.

“To be picked for Wales again is a great honour,” said the 24-year-old from Eccleshill.

“I’m over the moon, especially as we (the Bulls) haven’t had too good a season and with me not playing for Wales last season.

“The last time I played for them I suffered a pretty bad cruciate ligament injury and it will be really nice to pull a Welsh shirt on again.”

Kopczak qualifies to play for Wales through his grandfather Charlie, who hails from Wrexham but now lives in America.

“He’ll be listening out for what’s happening and probably be very proud,” said Kopczak, who stands to play up to four games this autumn, beginning with a pre-tournament friendly with Ireland at The Gnoll, Neath on October 22.

England are Wales’ next opponents at Leigh Sports Village, before they travel to Wembley on November 5 to meet reigning champions New Zealand as part of a double-header which is headlined by England’s clash with Australia.

Finally they meet Australia at Wrexham on November 13 and Kopczak said: “It will be the first time I’ve been to the new Wembley, so the thought of that is very exciting.

“I went to the old stadium as a kid but this will be the first time I’ve played there.”

As one of only a handful of Super League players in the Welsh squad, the Bulls forward is odds-on favourite to play in all four games, fitness allowing, and add to previous caps against England, Papua New Guinea and Scotland.

Kopczak said: “The neck is coming on in leaps and bounds and I’ve been back in full training for the last week.”
