Mick Potter admitted that a combination of injuries and far too many handling errors conspired to help lowly Wakefield to the 26-14 victory which kept them off the foot of the final Super League table.
The beleaguered Bulls, hamstrung through lack of key personnel throughout the season, now seem likely to finish in their lowest position of 11th during the summer era.
Potters’ side were rocked before the game when Brett Kearney (ankle) and Craig Kopczak (neck) failed to shake off niggling injuries and pulled up in final training.
Then just minutes into the match the Bulls lost Danny Addy, who started the campaign as third-choice hooker, to a damaged ankle.
His replacement Adam O’Brien lasted little longer before being forced off with a recurrence of the nose injury he suffered in the previous weekend’s win against Crusaders.
“The loss of Danny so early affected our rotation and then Adam came on and he went off too, so we had no hooker for the majority of the game,” said Potter.
