Gutsy young hooker Adam O’Brien will today see the Bulls physiotherapist to gauge the extent of the damage to his nose.

O’Brien left the field during the 48-24 victory over Crusaders on Sunday with blood streaming from his face – yet, after having it strapped up, he insisted on returning to the action.

Coach Mick Potter commended the 18-year-old former Siddal amateur, saying: “He was determined to come back on.

“At that stage we didn’t need him to but the fact he wanted to says everything about his attitude, which is fantastic for the future of the club.”

O’Brien made his Super League debut at Huddersfield in March and has now appeared five times off the bench.

“It’s a bit sore but nothing that will stop me training,” he said of the injury.

“I remember getting a knock on it early in the game and then took another scoot (from dummy half) later and someone put their head in my face.

“Suddenly there was blood everywhere and the physio couldn’t stop it, so they wrapped tape around my head. That slowed it down but every time I got another bang it started bleeding again.

“It wasn’t interfering with my game so I didn’t see any reason why I couldn’t go back on. I wanted to stay on the pitch.

“There’s still a lot of swelling, and it might be a little bent, but its not too bad and if the physio doesn’t say there’s something more serious wrong, I’m definitely hoping to be available for selection on Friday (the Bulls’ final game of the season at Wakefield).”

O’Brien is the younger brother of Bantams defender Luke and insisted: “It’s nothing really – but they definitely would have made a bit more of it in football!”
