Brett Kearney is on the verge of agreeing a deal to stay at Odsal.

A three-year extension should be agreed within the next week, finally ending months of negotiations over the Aussie’s future.

The Telegraph & Argus understands a draft contract has been submitted to the player’s representatives and they are expected to provide approval by next weekend.

Signed from Cronulla ahead of last season, Kearney was due to come off contract at the end of this year but has long spoken of his desire to stay at Bradford.

The Bulls’ chances of keeping Kearney appeared to have diminished slightly when it emerged that reigning Super League champions Wigan were among several clubs to have shown an interest.

But the 27-year-old’s preference was always to stay put and this week he indicated he was ready to put pen to paper on a new contract.

The timing is perfect, with Kearney expected to return to action against St Helens tomorrow after almost two months out with a broken hand.
