The Bulls could be poised to offer Willie Mason a Super League lifeline.

Chairman Peter Hood will explore the possibility of signing the controversial forward after watching Olivier Elima become the latest player to join Bradford’s sizeable injury list.

Elima picked up a potentially season-ending knee injury in Sunday’s defeat by Warrington to leave his side short on numbers up front.

Jamie Langley and Nick Scruton are also sidelined and Mason has emerged as a potential stop-gap due to his ongoing difficulties at Hull KR.

The former Australian Test star has been embroiled in wrangling and red tape since signing a two-year deal at Craven Park earlier this year and is currently stuck in limbo.

With no room on their overseas quota, Rovers were forced to de-register the player 11 days ago when fellow Aussie Michael Dobson returned from injury.

Mason had hoped to gain a Tongan passport, which would earn him an exemption from quota rules, but has so far been unsuccessful.

In the meantime, the player is still picking up a salary from Rovers and Hood is ready to test their resolve by proposing a loan deal.

“I’ve not spoken to the player, his manager or (Hull KR chairman) Neil Hudgell yet,” said Hood. “Would we be interested in taking Willie Mason on loan? Possibly we would.

“It might be a complete non-starter but I will look to speak to Neil Hudgell about the possibility this week.”

The Bulls have room on their overseas quota and salary cap to sign Mason but would need to obtain a new working visa for the player before completing any deal.
