Michael Platt is ready to repay a debt to his Bulls team-mates after missing the last two games through suspension.

The 26-year-old centre was hit with a ban after holding his hands up to a dangerous tackle on Huddersfield’s David Hodgson in the 52-6 Odsal defeat.

His absence came at a bad time for Bradford, who were missing seven first-teamers through injury for last week’s loss against Warrington, but Platt is determined to make amends at Castleford on Sunday.

“It’s been frustrating missing the last two games because I’m fully fit, so it’s not like I’ve missed out through injury,” said the former Tigers star.

“I had to be honest. I did deserve the ban but it wasn’t intentional.

“On top of that, the team really needed anyone fit to play in the last two games so I probably feel like I’ve let the boys down a bit.

“We’ve been down on numbers and a lot of quality players are missing so I can’t wait to get back and do my bit.”

Platt spent two enjoyable years at The Jungle, his impressive form earning a switch to Bradford following Castleford’s relegation in 2006.

And the fact a return from suspension coincides with a return to his old stomping ground only makes Sunday’s game more appealing.

“I really like playing there,” he said. “Visiting fans might not see it as a brilliant stadium but it’s one of the best grounds to play at.

“The crowd are right on top of you so it’s always a great atmosphere and that helps bring the best out of you.

“I enjoyed my time there because I felt I played some pretty good rugby there, so I’m looking forward to going back again.”

A lot has changed since Platt left Castleford, particularly a switch in position from full back to centre. But, despite his good form this season, he knows his place is not secure, due to the emergence of 18-year-old academy graduate Joe Wardle, as well as Steve Menzies’ ability to play centre.

“I’ve got another fight on my hands now,” said Platt. “Joe’s done really well recently and Beaver is just Beaver, so I know I’m not guaranteed to get back in.”
