Steve McNamara hopes to see a transformed team now his Bulls side have ended their losing run.

A 36-22 victory over Hull was their first in five games and dragged them back up into Super League’s top six.

Seven-try Bradford were always in front but their opponents made them sweat on a few occasions after a couple of costly mistakes nearly led to unlikely comebacks.

The Bulls survived their dodgy spells to come through and McNamara admitted: “I hate saying it but the result was probably more important than the performance.

“We were anxious and a little clutchy. The demons kept coming back into our heads when a couple of things went wrong and I thought we looked like a petrol car when the wife’s put some diesel in the tank – we kept going a bit further but then spluttering.

“We found a way to win eventually though, which was good. Now we’ve got that off our back and the fact that the players can relax a little bit more and enjoy their rugby league, hopefully we’ll see a completely different side.

“There’s a lot more work to do in terms of improving performances but I’m really pleased for the team because they deserved to win.”

The Bulls raced into a 16-0 lead though Andy Lynch, Semi Tadulala and Shontayne Hape tries but a huge Michael Platt gaffe let Hull back in and saw Bradford struggle for patches.

“Momentum can switch easily – just ask Hull KR after the other night,” said McNamara.

“We were leading 16-0 but then, god bless, our full back comes up with an error and things can start to go away from you.

“We then gave an intercept at the back end of the game in a position we didn’t need to and these sorts of things can cause that anxiety. But I thought we bombed a lot of chances too and the scoreline didn’t reflect that.”

The Bulls, who host Hull KR next Sunday, avoided losing four consecutive Super League games for the first time in their history and also avenged their Carnegie Challenge Cup defeat against Hull last month.

David Solomona came off with a back injury in the first half but McNamara says the Kiwi is not seriously injured, while Sam Burgess – who should be named in the England squad tomorrow for Friday’s Test in France – Terry Newton and Lynch all successfully came back after missing last week.
