BRADFORD Bulls Academy secured a 34-10 win over an experienced Huddersfield Giants outfit at Lockwood Park.

In hot and humid conditions, defences were on top throughout an opening quarter that saw neither line breached.

Four tries in a frantic final ten before the break – three to those in red, amber and black – saw Leigh Beattie’s side establish an 18-6 advantage.

The home side reduced the arrears soon after the interval before Ryan Butterworth and Murphy Smith scores.

Butterworth grabbed his second late on to seal an empathic result for the Academy outfit – with Matthew Race five from six with the boot.

Huddersfield enjoyed a strong start to proceedings but found themselves unable to break through a stubborn Bradford defence.

Ethan O’Hanlon was first to trouble the scoreboard on 24 minutes before a brief Giants response.

Luke Littlewood and winger Daniel McGrath both scored in reply as Bradford went back-to-back to hold a healthy lead going into the sheds at half-time.

The home side raced out of the blocks and sought to narrow the Bulls’ advantage, and did so with an unconverted try on the 45th minute.

Their response proved to be brief however as, on the following set, Butterworth got his first of his evening double to re-establish Bradford’s two-try lead.

Murphy Smith then matched the feat of his wing partner McGrath to touch down on the hour.

Butterworth’s second and final try proved to be the final scoring act of the match as Beattie’s side returned to winning ways with a six-try display.
