BRADFORD Bulls Scholarship side beat City of Hull Academy 24-20 in a thrilling contest at Odsal Stadium on Wednesday night – the Under-16s back in action following the mid-season interval.

The 10-week break followed four games to open the 2019 season and the last game of that spell saw Mark Dunning’s side partake in a 36-36 draw at Warrington Wolves.

The young Bulls led at the break, courtesy of scores from Nehemiah Mensah and Lewis Adams despite an early City of Hull try.

Racing out of the blocks, the Under-16s added to their lead with tries from Lewis Camden and David Kamano.

The visitors hit back with three successive scores to set up a nervy finale but the home side held firm.

In the Scholarship side’s first match at Odsal Stadium this season, Humberside outfit City of Hull raced into an early 6-0 lead before four back-to-back Bradford scores.

The first, was a stunning effort from Adams. The winger received the ball on his 40 metre line, sped past two would-be defenders on the left wing, brushing off the attention of a third before touching down.

Soon after, Mensah fought off three City of Hull defenders to crash over underneath the sticks – the second-row starlet being too powerful for the opposition.

Dunning’s side continued where they left off when they emerged at the start of the second half and soon broke the visitors’ line for a third time.

In the 45th minute, Kamano raced onto a short ball from Camden, breaking the City of Hull defence to touch down under the dot.

Camden then turned scorer from provider, the half-back meeting Taylor Mail’s chip kick behind on the full to go over in spectacular fashion.

The visitors ended the game strongly with three scores – only one was converted – which saw the home side edge a thriller at the hooter.
