JOSH Rickett hopes his four-try scoring exploits in Wednesday’s reserve-grade win over Keighley Cougars has given John Kear ‘food for thought’ – paying tribute to the effort of the side’s younger players.

The 21-year-old made his senior bow in the red, amber and black back in 2016 but has since found opportunities limited.

Winger Rickett currently has two-first team tries to his name but has been in impressive form this year – with Wednesday’s quartet of tries in the 66-6 rout of Cougars.

“It was a really good night and everyone played well across the park – especially the forwards in the first half,” said Rickett.

“Keyesy (Joe Keyes) obviously played really well on his first game back – just the way he controls the game and influence he has is a massive boost.

“Considering the conditions the skill was top notch from everyone and in defence the last 15-20 minutes they were on our line but couldn’t break us and that is credit to everyone.

“Being a younger lad in those conditions against some big blokes can be daunting but they managed it very well.

“I have to give credit to other people two of them were walk-ins (Tries) – the one where Keyes put the kick in to the corner was great precision.

“Hopefully I have put myself in contention for a first-team spot but there are top class players playing week I just need to keep working hard and hope I give John (Kear) food for thought.”
