LEIGH Beattie admits his Academy outfit are eager to right the wrongs of recent fixtures as they prepare to take to the field for the first time in two weeks against City of Hull Academy tomorrow.

A three-match winning run was ended with battling defeats against Widnes Vikings and Warrington Wolves, but his side have impressed in the opening stages of the season.

The way the players are learning to fix things up is pleasing to head coach Beattie, who insists his players will have to be ‘on the mettle’.

“It has been a tough few weeks, Warrington are a good side and no doubt City of Hull will be too, but the lads are looking forward to putting some wrongs right,” said Beattie.

“We are constantly learning about the players – it is all about development at this stage and they have been put under different pressures and different scenarios.

“They are learning to fix things up which is the pleasing thing – they are learning how to cope with the scenarios they find themselves in.

“City of Hull are always a good side – it is always a good challenge going to Hull and they have great facilities too.

“It will be a very tough test and we need to go fully prepared and on the mettle.”

Meanwhile, Thursday saw the announcement the Academy side’s clash with Leeds Rhinos will be the curtain-raiser to the men’s mouthwatering Coral Challenge Cup battle.

Kick-off for the Under-19s outfit will be 11.30am on Saturday, May 11 in an action-packed day for the return of the Biggest Derby in Rugby League. On The Planet.

Beattie has hailed the ‘great news’ – insisting games of this magnitude are why you want to play rugby and play for a club the size of Bradford Bulls.

“It is fantastic for the lads and it will be great for them to experience the occasion – even in the 19s/16s the rivalry is there,” said Beattie.

“They are tough competitive games and for the lads to play as part of such a big occasion will be massive for them – it is great news.

“Hopefully there will be a big crowd in early and will be great for the players to get a feel for it – these games are why you play rugby.
