JORDAN Lilley will be wrapped in cotton wool for another week as the Bulls switch to Challenge Cup mode.

The on-loan Leeds half-back has missed the last two games with the severe dead leg he suffered against Batley.

Lilley is now targeting the Odsal clash with Dewsbury a week on Sunday as John Kear ruled him out of contention for this weekend’s fourth-round cup derby at Keighley.

Kear said: “He’s still way off. Last week we tried to push him back and he just couldn’t get on the field.

“He isn’t running with the full range of movement. But we’ve got a little while until we play Dewsbury and hopefully he’ll be ready for that.

“I won’t risk him against Keighley, especially after you’ve seen how we played on Sunday. Jordan will be making sure he’s ready for the following week.”

The Bulls will monitor Dalton Grant’s fitness ahead of the Cougar Park trip.

The Wales international had been named in his first squad of the season against Leigh but was forced to pull out with a sore groin.

But Kear continues to be impressed with the performances of fellow winger David Foggin-Johnston, who caught the eye once more in last week’s win.

“He’s a good kid,” added the Bulls coach. “He’s got a chance perhaps earlier than I thought he would because of Jy Hitchcox’s injury.

“But he’s certainly taken that. I’d have just liked to have seen him get away (for a try) but Gregg McNally tapped his ankle when he had that space in front of him.”

Having described their last performance as the best result of his Odsal tenure, Kear is looking to maintain that level of intensity as the Bulls prepare to face their League One neighbours.

“They’ve got to apply themselves as urgently as they did on Sunday. There is still that urgency for us to improve and progress.

“They need to keep applying themselves at work, in training, in team meetings and obviously on the playing field. They need to show that attitude, hunger and determination that they’ve demonstrated in bucket loads over the first eight games.”
