DAVID Foggin-Johnston hopes he has shown he can be a Bulls player for all occasions and conditions.

The former Hunslet winger made his competitive debut in Sunday’s slog against Batley.

The wintry weather at Mount Pleasant was hardly the most conducive scenario for his speed game but Foggin-Johnston felt he put his case to coach John Kear.

RECAP: Bulls back to winning ways at Batley

He said: “As soon as I looked out my window in the morning, I put it on group chat that it was snowing.

“I thought I was going to struggle but it’s part of the job.

“When you see weather like this, it’s not going to be pretty for people my size. You have to dig your heels in and take some carries for the boys.

“It’s a tough hill. It’s the first time I’ve ever played on that and I’m not sure I want to again.

“I’m just buzzing with the effort to come back from a couple of disappointing losses and work hard for each other.

“The middles won us the game, putting in the hard work and keeping them from coming out of their 20.”

The 16-6 victory snapped a three-match losing run and raised morale among the squad ahead of this weekend’s daunting clash with Widnes.

“We’ve had a few tough weeks and we had to grind it out,” added Foggin-Johnston. “But it was a good win and we’ll take that.

“We’ve got Widnes coming up and they’re not going to roll over. But a big performance like that gives us a lot of confidence.

“We’re not getting battered. We’re not far off but just keep losing by little bits.

“That’s disheartening and makes you feel worse. You’re putting all the effort in and still not coming away with anything.

“Hopefully on Sunday we righted a few wrongs and now we need to back it up.

“It’s about consistency. It’s about working hard like that.”

His own battle is keeping his own place in Kear’s line-up. With Jy Hitchcox facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a shoulder injury, a starting spot is up for grabs.

Foggin-Johnston said: “It’s a tough one. You’ve got Ethan Ryan and Jy, who are class players, and even those who aren’t playing at the moment like Dalton (Grant) and (Josh) Ricketts.

“It’s a good competitive spirit around the club but you’re hungry to get your chance. Hopefully I did all right but the win was the main thing.”
