JAKE Webster has lauded Bulls fans for their commitment after another army of supporters travelled to Swinton.

And the experienced rugby league stalwart said the players are aiming to repay their faith.

Just under 1,500 turned out to watch Bulls win 31-12 at Heywood Road, with a significant proportion having travelled from Bradford.

Webster, who has also witnessed loyal followings as a Castleford and Hull KR player, had his first proper experience of the Bulls' backing for a league away match.

The centre said: “The fans have stuck through and through some of the darkest times I’ve seen in rugby league, so for them to come here in their numbers, it’s a credit to them and the club.

“Hopefully the boys can repay them by keep doing performances on the field.

“This club’s got some amazing history and it would just be a shame to see it go to waste.

“The fans are starting to come out and support us again so hopefully we can keep it up.”

The Bulls haven't looked back since their promotion to the Betfred Championship and they'll be counting on the experience of the likes of Webster and Rhys Evans to aid the younger players in the squad.

Webster said: “That’s what we’re here for. They bring the energy and the exciting sort of game. We’ll try keep them calm and make sure we get around the pitch where we have to and if it gets tough then we’re always in there to help.

He added: “It’s going to be a long year. We’ve got a big, deep squad and I’m pretty sure everyone is going to be needed, so as long as everyone keeps putting their best foot forward then we’ll put a competitive team out every week.”

John Kear's side face a tough test against Sheffield Eagles on Friday night, with both sides boasting 100 per cent records from their two league games so far this season.

Webster concurred with other Bulls players in saying Kear gave some stern words after a disappointing first half against Swinton.

The centre admitted they'd need to switch on quicker in the future.

He said: "We had a pretty good set after Jordan Lilley's drop-goal, which put us in good position to get a few more tries.

“I think we’ve got to stick to what we’ve worked on all week instead of trying to out-muscle them, and be a bit smarter.”

He added: "It's a short turn around, but exciting as well. You’re going to play a Friday night game up at Sheffield and it’s going to hopefully be a packed house and we'll see how we go.”
