BULLS interim head coach Leigh Beattie was making no excuses after his side's "reality check" at London Broncos yesterday.

Following two victories on the spin, the Bulls were beaten 42-12 in their Kingstone Press Championship clash in the capital.

Former Bradford star Jarrod Sammut was once again their tormentor in chief, racking up 18 points for the promotion-chasing Broncos.

And while Beattie admits it was a tough pill to swallow, he insists that the wet weather and artificial pitch at Ealing Trailfinders' ground cannot be used as mitigating factors.

He said: "The lads are devastated with that. There were too many errors again and London were just far too good for us.

"We're a young side and they are going to come up with errors, and errors at the wrong times – that's what happens with inexperience.

"London are a good side, they're quick and very powerful. They were a lot faster than us, so we struggled and ran out of steam a bit.

"They will be in the top four without a doubt and pushing for promotion, so it's a reality check for us.

"You play on the pitch you play on. We're not making any excuses on that front – they were better than us on the day and we weren't good enough. That's it, end of.

"There's no excuses – weather, hail, rain, wind, artificial pitch. They were a better side than us, without a doubt, and that's why they beat us."

Stand-off Lee Smith finally made his Bulls debut after being confined to the bench against Toulouse the previous weekend.

On the former England international's display, Beattie added: "I thought Lee was good. We defended a lot and there were a lot of penalties, so we didn't really get to see what potential he has.

"We all know what a good player he is but that was a bit tough for him."
